Day of the Event...
Entrance into the 33rd floor Tower Center was greeted with the ambiance of musicians Howard & Beverly Vance setting the atmosphere for enjoyment.
Then your eyes were met with an exhibit of artifacts on lend by Mrs. Mary P. Patterson, widow of the celebrant, the late Bishop J.O. Patterson, Sr. To your amazement on display was Bishop Patterson’s bible, reading glasses, handwritten sermon notes, sermon tapes, his camera & binoculars used during his leisure travels, communion cups and coins presented to him in Israel by Shimon Peres. There was his favorite item to wear – Tony Lama snake skin boots and Texas Rawhide leather belts, along with photos from his hunting days.
Our emcee for the evening was Mr. Douglas Wilkins who first introduced Dr. Jay Earheart-Brown from the Memphis Theological Seminary to do the invocation. Then recognized were officials that were present, Councilman Jim Strickland, Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell who presented a proclamation. Other proclamations presented were from the State of Tennessee-Governor Bill Haslam, a letter from U.S. Senator Bob Corker and Mother Willie M. Rivers of the Church of God in Christ, Inc. Department of Women.

There to give remarks on the life of Bishop J.O. Patterson, Sr. were his friend Bishop William Graves, two recipients of the J.O. Patterson Fine Arts Scholarship – Mr. Arthur Covington & Sharon Renee Daniels, his spiritual son – Bishop David Grayson, Dr. Darrin Rodgers of the Assemblies of God Springfield, MO and a host of others. Then we were enthused by our guest speaker Dr. David Daniels of Chicago, IL to tell his story of remembering what Bishop J. O. Patterson, Sr. meant to him.

Other distinguished guest included Dr. & Mrs. Percy Washington of Sweet Canaan COGIC of Lexington, MS, representatives from Memorial Park Cemetery of the Patterson Family Burial Site.
Our guest palettes were tantalized with a decorative buffet table of assorted fruits, cheese & crackers, chicken tenders, turkey meatballs, spinach & artichoke dips. Dessert table with flavored bite size cheese cakes accompanied with beverages of coffee, tea, ice tea, water and a punch filled champagne fountain. Our guests were also treated to excellent table service by brother and sister, Mr. Brandon A. Archer & Miss Somijah J. Archer.
